While tomorrow is officially Election Day, millions of Americans have already voted through early, in-person voting or voting by mail. And we, the U.S. Postal Service OIG, have taken steps to help ensure ballots are being handled properly by the Postal Service.

Over the past four months, we have issued three reports focused on election mail operations. Overall, we found that while the Postal Service was generally following its procedures for processing and delivering ballots, some areas needed improvement. We also identified concerns surrounding integrating state and local election office processes with Postal Service processes to help ensure the timely delivery of election mail. Additionally, we identified steps USPS should take to improve its handling of international mail, including international election mail.

To better inform the public, a few months ago we created an Election and Political Mail webpage, which lists these reports as well as other resources, including a list of best practices for receiving election mail materials, frequently asked questions, and a link to report suspected election mail fraud.

As states have sent out absentee ballots and voters sent them back over the past month, the OIG has taken the unprecedented step of sending our auditors and investigators to over 1,000 Postal Service facilities — both mail processing plants and delivery units — to ensure USPS employees are following election mail procedures and properly processing election mail. This allows us to provide the Postal Service immediate feedback, which they can use to fix any problems we have identified.

Did you vote in person or by mail for this election? Have you voted by mail in previous elections?

Hello, As a voter, I am genuinely concern about the integrity of the voting system in our Country. It is obvious to me that We, The People are battling immense fraud that is jeopardizing our Freedom, hence: I respectfully request that the USPS retain images of all ballots send or received during the election. I am requesting this because I understand that the USPS only keep images of the mail for 30 days. I respectfully request that the USPS identify and flag precise addresses where 2 or more ballots may have been shipped. Thank you and God Bless our free Republic!

My MO absentee ballot Never made it back to my county clerks office. They do NOT count votes if they are received AFTER election day. Lousy rules there. Assuming it was handled correctly by USPS. Seems others had mail held up in KC they were tracking. Maybe mine is there too? No tracking available on MO mail in ballots, large yellow envelopes. Should have sent it Priority or Certified to track it. Normally takes only 3-4 days. They had 10+ business days. Too many issues with USPS this election, caused by upper offices. No party or dictator should subvert our democracy. I hope they all fight this USPS election mail-in BS. Took Mom's in person to the polls to be counted.

So why was my mail-in ballot returned to my residence on election day? I mailed it on 21 Oct 2020 in Eureka, it is so postmarked, As my mail doesn't normally arrive until 5pm-9pm most days I was unable to go to the polls to vote thanks to the USPS incompetence. What a waste of taxpayer dollars; in order to have a chance to get mail delivered properly you need to send it Priority or Certified to track it.

It is appalling incompetence, but it is not a waste of taxpayer's dollars, other than what your local election board spent to print and mail the ballot. The USPS does not receive tax money. Maybe if it did we could hold them accountable and prevent this type of inefficiency.

My husband and I requested absentee ballots from our home county, Covington County Alabama. The ballots were mailed to us on October 22,2020 to Brooks Rehab Hospital in Jacksonville, Florida. He has been in three different hospitals since July 28 after contracting the COVID-19 virus. We never received the absentee ballots. Since I have been unable to file a complaint with USPS we will contact our attorney to file suit against the USPS. We have been denied our right to vote due to USPS service. We will also be contacting our Senators and Representatives to investigate the failure of USPS.

Mrs. Harden, first & foremost, I pray your husband is much better. I just wanna tell you I am so proud you are fighting, there aren't awful lot if folks that aren't in the position to do so, perhaps they can feel like you are fighting for them and for America herself! I'm sure that's alot on already burdened shoulders, but God Bless you ma'am, and I will remember you & your fight in my daily prayers! We MUST be heard! This was SOOOO predictable, and WAS predicted. But I haven'theard the no account media report on that! The USPS was nearly broken before this, after losing 'more than their usual amount' of my overseas incoming packages & after I sent an email telling them of my displeasure & lack of confidence in them, my packages then came to a complete halt & only recently began very slowly arriving. Still missing about 50 pieces! They are playing with America's livelihood & Rights. I'm afraid there is much more to come. STAY STRONG!

Thank you for the invaluable work of the USPS. I appreciate the institution and it's employees. I voted using the mail in ballot for the first time. I believe the established measures of accountability and transparency the USPS have in place have given me confidence in voting via mail. Thank you . Grateful Patron

My mail in ballot was delivered to the county voting registrar's office here in San Bernardino County in California in mid October. I was checking my ballot status today (the day before the election) and was informed my ballot had not been counted! Reportedly, the USPS stated to the registrar's office that I did not live in San Bernardino County and had moved to another county, which is WRONG. I have lived here for 9 years and voted by mail in all previous elections since I've been living in California. My land lord did previously live here and moved to Orange County prior to me moving in to this house a year ago, so I'm hoping that's what happened. Long story short, I had to go vote in person today and it went fine. a little upset at USPS for not notifying me about this earlier.

Yes I voted by mail-in ballot this year and every year since I have lived in the Great State of Washington. According to my stub, the website says my ballot was already counted... This whole country should be given this method so that no party or dictator could subvert our democracy.

Come on!!!! You seriously cannot ask ANYONE to cart your mail to porch one a week ??? If you were a nice person, the carrier would do it , no problem. We asked my grandmother's mail carrier and she had no problem delivering all mail ea day to box and on Friday, bring it to porch. When people do not help certain people its because they do not deserve help. I pray for you. You would be surprised how nice people would be to you...if you are nice.

Juju, comment was rude and uncalled for. It's because your mail carrier done that for you it's not mean her's will do it for her because everyone is different. and so you can make the assumption that she is not a nice person and that's why her mail carrier won't do it, and that was wrong and uncalled for. You don't know how far her mailbox is from her house, do you know how old she is and what kind of surgery she had. You must be a young person & health to be so obnoxious & incaring or else you would understand a little more I would hope. I have you to know that I give my mailman Christmas gift every year and little snacks and treats all throughout the year and he still crams oversized packages in my mailbox so hard he has tore it up twice. All because he don't want to make the 200 yd trip to my porch- which he can drive all the way up to. Be a little Kinder especially during this time. What's wrong with America today. Kindness is about gone & people are no longer trained to know better & with a moral compass
