• Project Title:
  • Small Package Sorting System Performance
  • Start Date:
  • Monday, May 8, 2017
  • Estimated Report Release Date:
  • November 2017

The rapid growth in ecommerce and expansion of the package delivery market has created opportunities for the Postal Service, helping drive double-digit growth in package volume since 2015. To expand package processing capacity, the Postal Service plans to purchase and install an additional seven Small Package Sorting Systems (SPSS) before the 2017 peak mailing season.

The SPSS is predominately a commercial, off-the-shelf sorter adapted to incorporate barcode and optical character reading technologies along with remote video encoding capabilities for sorting packages.

Our objective is to evaluate if the 33 currently deployed SPSS machines are meeting the Postal Service’s expected performance goals.

  • How effective is the Postal Service in using SPSS machines to improve package processing capabilities and meet productivity and throughput goals?
  • What obstacles or issues are preventing the SPSS from meeting stated productivity and throughput goals?
  • Please explain any benefits or issues your facility has experienced with the SPSS machine.

My son is in the Air Force, I mailed 2 packages to him on 4-8-2017. One got there, the other one did not. We have been searching for it ever since. We receive letter today stating that they can not find it. This is unacceptable! I want my sons things, they are not replaceable, have personal information on them, and sentimental value. They knew it was my package from the scan enough to tell me that it was not deliverable and was sent to lost mail. Really!!!!! It had every one of my sons game systems, games, laptop, electric razor in it. I have filed claims, spoke with consumer affairs, and done everything possible to retrieve my sons stuff. Something needs done about this. He has to serve his country, but the post office cant get his stuff to him!!

we have been searching for our lost package since 4-8-17. 1 of 2 packages with all the same address got to him at Keesler AFB in Mississippi. We have filed everything we could. We receive a letter today stating that they can not locate our package and next time to be sure and have both addresses on the box. I DID!!!! It was one of your boxes, priority mail, the addresses were written on the box!! My son in in the Airforce, waiting for all of his game systems to be returned to him, oh but they say that they cant find his box. Funny, they knew it was my box and said it was going to be returned to lost mail, Ok if they knew it was my box, enough to send me the alert, why could it not come back to me. I had my address along with my sons. This is ridiculous, it was not a small box to lose.!! I want my stuff!!!!! THis is unacceptable to lose all of my sons things, never to be found. THese things are non replaceable to him. I will not give up! Someone needs to step up and help this kid.

I am wanting to know if an employee,a USPS local window clerk at a U.S. Post Office has violated any rules such as Misconduct: by asking me ,'Where are you laying your head these days'? I do not and had never met this employee before. Furthermore, she was quite or somewhat quite rude to me and my brother. We had personal family issues [like caregiving our elder 98-99 year old Mother and were out of town for upwards of two years and the then Postmaster of this facility was 'Holding our Mail" She is not there anymore. This other clerk was rude, saying ,'This has been going on for years,we're in the business of " MovingMail" !! I do not think this is proper conduct for a USPS Government Employee. It is also not up to my standards anyway for any employee anywhere to conduct and ask these type of questions to a customer. Incidently, the local mail service for this facility and the other connected one is not the best either...has not been for years... I've complained but mostly goes "on deaf ears" !!
