The Post Office lobby is the principal business office of the Postal Service and it is often the only close-up view customers get of postal operations. The lobby’s appearance and maintenance directly affect the Postal Service’s image and are essential to its business. A bright, clean, and welcoming, Post Office is more likely to leave customers with a positive impression.

As part of our ongoing review of facility conditions, we are assessing retail facility conditions in the Pacific Area and are visiting postal locations throughout California. We would like to hear from you, so please share your experience.

  • Have you observed maintenance, safety, or security concerns at your local Post Office?
  • Does the building roof leak or is the heating and air conditioning not in working order?
  • Is the Post Office lobby clean and welcoming? 
  • Have recent weather conditions in the Pacific Area affected the condition of your Post Office?

    AC has been an issue in this facility since I have taken over in Mid-October. Have submitted work orders to our local FMO. Anything you can do to assist our operation prior to the 2017 Summer would be most appreciated.

    How bout your mail carriers don't steal packages? How bout they deliver packages to the right address? Please investigate the mail carriers and brick and mortars at and in the vicinity of the Dosan Ahn location on 6th St in Los Angeles. In that area, USPS is notorious for "losing" packages permanently (check out the 6th St. location's Yelp page if you need evidence of a pattern). My family member addressee has junk mail delivered successfully to her apartment, but in the span of one week, two letters carrying checks from two separate people were never delivered. When I track my PRIORITY MAIL package to the addressee online, it says USPS delivered it, which is a lie. Losing once, I chalk up to incompetence. Twice, I start to worry something criminal is going on. You're losing customers because of exactly this, and not offering a way to solve the problem or file a claim (upload a photo of my package, are you kidding me?), not because the interior of your brick and mortars aren't "inviting" enough. This lost mail has caused my family a great deal of stress. Why is NO ONE held accountable for lost mail? You should be investigating poorly operating USPS locations and finding ways to track whether mail carriers are in fact delivering mail to the right addresses and measuring that data to determine which carriers and which locations should be investigated and set straight. No one cares if your lobby area is inviting; we care if our mail gets delivered on time, to the right place, consistently. It is deeply troubling that USPS claims delivery when it did no such thing.

    Royal Oaks Post Office is in need of maintenance in many areas due to size, age, and lack of funding. There are leaks all over the building when it rains so the answer is; get buckets to catch water. Security at the main entry for employees is haphazard at best. The security scanner for badges works about 50% of the time on one side. The scanner for badges on the opposite side has not worked for over a year. This very frustrating to deal with everyday when the P.O. cries for efficiency. It is a huge waste of time for carriers using LLV's, since they have to get out of the vehicle to utilize the badge scanner to activate the gate to open anytime they need to enter the property.

    The OIG is an independent agency of the Postal Service and conducts a variety of investigations and audits, including economy and efficiency. This particular audit led from deplorable conditions in Jal, New Mexico, which Congress requested that we look at. We are looking at post offices nationwide to determine whether or not they are safe and secure.
